What is IPL photofacial?
IPL photofacial is a treatment that uses Intense Pulsed Light to drastically reduce the appearance of age spots, freckles, broken capillaries and rosacea, all while simultaneously tightening the skin.* The light from a photofacial emits multiple wavelengths into the skin to target pigment producing cells below the surface. The light energy is converted to heat energy and that heat breaks up the excessive melanin-producing cells, eventually dispersing the pigmented areas.* IPL Photofacial can be used on the face, décolleté (your chest and neck area) and hands.
What can I expect from the treatment? Is it painful?
IPL Photofacial is not traditionally described as painful or uncomfortable. Often times patients describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping on their skin. While the length of a Photofacial IPL varies depending on the treatment area, a facial procedure can take up to 45 minutes and may leave the skin slightly red or puffy. Otherwise there is no downtime after the treatment, and you will be able to return to your normal skincare routine immediately.
What kind of results can I expect?
Photofacial results improve over time, with optimal results being seen after three months.* Sun protection and skin care maintenance are essential to the longevity of the results, and a new series of treatments are recommended every year to keep your skin looking great.* Sunburns and over exposure will bring back old spots and freckles, so be sure to wear your sunscreen!
Am I a candidate for treatments?
Patients with dark tans or melasma are not good candidates. The light rays are attracted to pigment, and as a result darker skin tones may become discolored and melasma patches may darken. During your consultation at Calgary MediSpa, we will determine if a photofacial is the best treatment for your personal aesthetic goals.
